New Judges take the Bench. There have been some recent changes on the federal bench in South Dakota. On June 5, 2024, Judge Camela Theeler was sworn in as a district judge for the District of South Dakota. Judge Theeler replaces Judge Jeffrey Viken, who retired last October. Judge Theeler’s duty station is Rapid City. On June 6, 2024, Judge Eric Schulte was sworn in as a district judge. He fills a vacancy created by Judge Karen Schreier, who is moving to senior status. Judge Schulte’s duty station is Pierre, whereas Chief Judge Lange is now based in Sioux Falls.

POWER Act Event. In recognition of the important role the judiciary plays in assisting victims of domestic violence and compliance with the POWER Act, the District of South Dakota is cosponsoring a virtual POWER Act event on Friday, July 19th . More information is available on our website.
