Investiture. As previously noted in the July newsletter, two new District Court judges have taken the bench in South Dakota. Now, the first of the two will hold his formal investiture ceremony. The Investiture of the Honorable Eric C. Schulte will be held on Friday, September 27th at 3:00 p.m. in Pierre Courtroom 1. Members of the bar and the public are invited to attend.

New Probation and Pretrial Services Chief. Kirk Byrd will become the Chief U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services Officer for the District of South Dakota in October following the retirement of Lynn Bowers. Byrd has held several positions with the Probation Office, most recently serving as Deputy Chief. Byrd is originally from Murdo and received his undergraduate degree from Dakota Wesleyan followed by his master’s degree from the University of the Cumberlands.

Reminder. The court will be closed on Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day.
