United States District Court for South Dakota
Newsletter December 11, 2012
The Court periodically reviews its local rules and proposes revisions. The latest proposals to the civil and criminal local rules are posted on the Courts website at www.sdd.uscourts.gov along with a memo outlining the changes. If you have any comments or suggestions, please forward them to Jon Sogn, Chair of the Federal Practice Committee at jsogn@lynnjackson.com

While much of this effort is to clean up the existing rules a few of the proposals that you may find of interest are:

Civil LR 5.1 (2) Serving and Filing Pleadings and other Papers. The proposed revision would eliminate the need to file a separate certificate of service when all parties receive notice electronically through the Courts electronic filing system. A certificate of service would still be required for any parties that do not receive electronic notice.

Criminal LR 28.1 Interpreters. The proposed revision would require counsel to notify the Court at least two weeks in advance if counsel believes that interpreter services for court proceedings are needed for more than one hour.

Criminal LR 49.1 Serving and Filing Documents. This change mirrors the changes to Civil LR 5.1
